Investing in the advocacy capacity of parents, especially those historically underserved, has long been sporadic. So, we funded trainings for parents, facilitated by a multitude of organizations.
Our first round of community engagement grantees designed literacy and culturally based advocacy trainings, equipped parents with responsive leadership tools, and filled the urgent need for a pipeline of empowered parents. More than 1,000 parents participated.
We see parents who are establishing expectations that schools and systems be held accountable – and be responsive to their children’s needs. There’s still more work to be done to ensure we have a community of great schools. With our “Voices of the village” RFP, we will invest in more trainings as well as parent-led campaigns. We seek to support organizations that have the passion, capacity and leadership to:
1. Amplify parent agency and capacity to advocate for education reforms
2. Support high-performing and high-potential schools, and/or decrease enrollment in our city’s lowest-performing schools
3. Facilitate trainings to equip families with objective information and tools related to education to increase their capacity and ability to advocate
Help transform education in concert with parents. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on July 23, 2018!
